March 29th 2012. London.

These prestigious awards are now in their 7th year and are the only ones specifically for palliative care, so are worthy of our support.

There are numerous categories, but the one of interest to us as educators is the Education Award. This is unique in its conception and rightly offers an opportunity for us to nominate a colleague who we think excels as an educator. A number of existing NAPCE members have already been honoured by receiving this award which is testament to its high standards. Those shortlisted are invited to an evening ceremony at a smart London Hotel and wined and dined alongside their colleagues and invited guests.

The other award that is well worth supporting is the Lifetime Achievement Award which has several past recipients who are highly regarded educators including Jo Hockley, Philip Larkin and Mary Vachon.

The criteria for these awards is below. Applications can be made online or via the downloadable forms and the deadline is December 16th. 2011. Just follow the link http://www.ijpn.co.uk/awards.shtml

Educator of the year

We are interested in hearing about a committed and influential educator who has contributed to the expansion of palliative nursing knowledge through the development of, for example, new educational strategies and materials, learning networks that encourage the growth of skills and knowledge of nurses, patients and families or carers, or the means to assess the outcomes of education. Submissions should outline how, through education, they have made a difference to patients and those close to them.

Lifetime achievement award

This award recognises the contribution made over a number of years by an inspirational and influential individual who has made an outstanding contribution to palliative nursing.
